Here comes the monsoon

Hi phantom/imaginary readers.

You see, yours truly is currently at a Starbucks outlet. Still clad in my office wear and smelling a lot like  gym socks. I must admit the monsoon season this year have sent a lot of KLites into insanity. I'm not a KLite but more like a Kembangite, whose area has been badly affected by sudden floods of late. And tonight is one of the many recurrences.

I have in fact logged off earlier, at around 6pm, but little I realized it was pouring outside. A collegue warned me about the rising water at UPM exit so I detoured to Putrajaya exit. I dread the thought of struggling through my non-functioning Kancil brake whenever it immersed in the water. Bad experience once as I almost encountered with self-accident, hence here I am... at a Starbucks, typing an entry. Feeling a whole lot safer. #asif #rolleyes

I'm giving myself only 10minutes to type this entry. So I guess it's going to be another one of those pointless entries in this blog. :-)

Anyways, a bunch of friends and I decided to watch "Istanbul Aku Datang" and gave up lunch. Well let me tell you, it was worth it; times 10! I can always count on Bernard Chauly production, light and happiness guaranteed. Great witty script from Rafidah 3R. We left the theatre happy and fell damn hard in love with Beto Kusyairy!

Here's one the best songs in the film. "Aku Datang" by Tomok. Oh he didn't disappoint too. You see... the thing about Bernard is, he has this penchant for underdogs leading man, ever since Gol & Gincu.
Go watch this movie girls, you'll find yourself surveying for plane tickets to Turkey right after *wink*

Ok time's up! 10mins.

Of skin and ghost chair

Eid Mubarak readers!

Many joy and many forgiveness showered during the month of Syawal. But I'm not ready yet to post an entry on my great Raya in Kuching.

I checked out the viral video "Muara Hati" by Hafiz and our darling diva, Dato' Siti. It's the opening credit for the supposedly most awaited local soap, Adam & Hawa.

And I feel like crap after watching it, the video I mean...

Cue *read dramatically
Look at Tok Ti's skin!! Why? Why it has to be so overly flawless and luminous and radiant and arggghhhh! Check out min 2:27, 3:18, 3:24... please tell me you're stressing out like I did! I was so jealous that a zit popped out in full liberty... shishh!

Then there's ze ghost chair.

I've been falling head over heels with this baby since I first saw it in the season finale of Sex & The City!

Ok, just in case your YouTube is blocked, this is a ghost chair;

So chic!
And so I've been contemplating to change my dining furniture with these darlings! Little that I know each actually cost a bomb! Like, RM1,200 a pop! Gulp... No wonder here in Malaysia, only Datin Paduka Umie Aida is seen adorning her crib with these luxurious pieces. What a blessed life! I, on the other hand will keep on dreaming.

Meanwhile, when KL was still pretty much barren, hubster and I took the opportunity to wander about the city. We ended up at Setia City Mall, way in Shah Alam.

And hubster could be so random. Random like this entry. It's been ages since I longed for a reading light. I don't remember when was the last time I fussed about it. And finally  after months of pestering.
..

..
I heart you hubs
..

..
Must get 'I Heart Paris' soon

I officiated my babies with something from Jane Green.... ahh bliss.

I guess the true reason of hubster purchasing me these simply because he can no longer bear the lights that I keep switched on until late midnight while he's dozing off. Pffft... Anyway thank you hubs. Love you ketat ketat *lain macam je bunyik ni.

And I finally had the chance popping into the mostly raved about McCafe at teluk ceruk peruk Damansara. Not Mutiara Damansara ok but Jln Cecawi, like further up, way further. It's just a nook in the McDonald's and in a split second you might change your mind to have McD burgers instead. I almost did. Beverage wise, all I could say is, how disappointing. Far fetched from the coffee artisan, Starbucks and Coffee Bean. They've got a long way to go. But the muffins are really good. Will definitely come back for the banana muffin.

Thumbs down baby cinno
To cap off my random entry, guess who decided to make a debut in Pavilion? Naaah...
Hubster, this...NEXT!

No more a secret

Everything and more

It's been a while since I last posted a worthless read entry. So here's one.

As I was waiting for my lunch to be served, I flipped the latest issue of Marie Claire.
And there's an interesting feature called 'Kit 'n Kaboodle' under its Beauty compilation. It takes a peek into what four fashion and beauty industry players pack when they're travelling.

My cobalt blue darling
So I took out my crossbody purse and decided to 'examine' what beauty stuff I took with me.
 :::
:::
Got this cute pouch from my Kenyan intern, Monttel.

:::
:::
I took everything out of that small pouch and arranged them nicely on the table. By then, S.O looked annoyed already. Judging from the frown lines he must have wanted to ask me, "What do you think you are doing?" or simply, "You're bored aren't you?"

Anyways, here is.

Nothing fancy I know right...
:::
:::
Clockwise form the top: Maybelline colorsensational in 525 Peachy Scene, Maybelline Baby Lips in Smoothing Cherry, my little notebook, my 8gb flash drive, Flanil analgesic cream, Revlon PhotoReady foundation in Ocre Naturel, MaxFactor flawless perfection blush in Classic Rose, MaxFactor eyeliner in black, wet wipes from Watson's and Estee Lauder BB cream sampler.

Well not really a beauty industry player material huh?

Told ya this is a worthless read entry.

Ok lah, ok lah I give you something worth drooling.

29 Feb 2012

The Leap Year it is...

So, it's February 29th today.

Well I feel that I'm obliged to post an entry simply because it's a special date today, an occurrence of once every four years. MasyaAllah... Despite all the hardship that I was confronted with lately, it feels good to know that there are happy days still, just like today.

I thought of giving one or two (or more) remarks on the recent OTT Oscar Night. Yes, I know how crazy Tweethearts raved about Angelina Jolie's right leg and JLo's errrr.... wardrobe malfunction? On a 42", I couldn't be mistaken, indeed she pulled a Nicki Minaj; sadly on a prestigious night whilst presenting the legendary golden statue...

I prefer Mila Kunis's...

.
.

There's a 'shadow' going on...

.
.

But I guess I'll talk about it over the weekend... I've got lots to say about the famous red carpet prancers.

As for today's entry I think I'm going to list out the movies that I have watched so far up until tonight. I've been meaning to do so since January 1st but somehow I lost track, not that there were too many but simply because I have memory like an elephant. So, to my husband I turned for help. As of February 29th, these are the movies that Hubs and I have watched;

  1. We Bought A Zoo
  2. Underworld - Awakening
  3. Chronicle
  4. Journey II - The Mysterious Island
  5. The Descendants
  6. Ghost Rider II Spirit of Vengeance
  7. This Means War
"This Means War" tops my review. I love it when an unplanned movie date turned out to be worthy and memorable because of the film. Hubs and I would talk about it right after and even right before we hit the bed (no pun intended). We laughed so hard that we've forgotten we were hungry in the first place! Reese Witherspoon was brilliant plus the buffoonery of Chelsea Handler , it's even better!! Here's the trailer.

.
.
We didn't intend to celebrate the leap year but with a good movie like this we played along! The night was wrapped up with a trip to Tutti Frutti. No piccas though cuz I was busy relapsing into the so-called-fat-free yogurt treat. Alhamdulillah for a quality-hubs-wife-time spent...

The movies that we both look forward to are the followings; (click to watch trailer)

Meanwhile, let me tend to my bad knees... oh about that, an unfortunate account to be told soon...

Happy Leap Year readers! xoxo

A weekend that is almost pointless

That's me and Hubs (please excuse our round-ness). For non-child-bearer like us, weekend can be so daunting. We ran out on ideas on what to do, normally I would dedicate my weekend for major house chores, like laundry, mopping, ironing a wardrobe, cooking big meals but at times all those were done by Friday, leaving Saturday and Sunday for lazing around. Lifeless, I know. So, last weekend was one of those days, we both got mati-kutu you know, he looked at me munching, I looked at him Facebuku-ing... until it was 11 am, I couldn't stand the silly shows on the idiot box, boomed! I got a BIG idea.

"Let's check out B.I.G"
"Apa?"
"B.I.G, kat Solaris"
"Apa?"
 Me, giving up and hurriedly changing from shorts to my outing gears. Hubs is still in his sarong.
"Jom la" K-Pop duck mouth protruding from my face.
"Apa?"
By then, I got super annoyed and literally grabbed him and handed him a decent T-Shirt.
"Oh nak keluarkah," (like duh)

The back entrance at Publika
I've been wanting to go this grocer since the BIG Group's facebuku announced the official opening.  I've been pestering Hubs to go but he refused, he kept saying we don't do upscale groceries.

"We go kedai apek bawah rumah only, capisce (Rancic's style - kah-peesh)?" were his exact words and he said it with a very, very serious face. But that fateful day, he gave in because his smarty wife lured him with a plate of pasta, the dish he's been craving for days. Clever one.

Where is this B.I.G? It's at Publika, a new shopping mall located at Solaris Dutamas. Google map please. And B.I.G stands for Ben's Independent Grocer. It's part of the BIG Group. If you already 'Like' their Facebuku, it states there that the BIG Group believes in bonding humans, especially Malaysians, through food. True to their words, Hubs and I are no exception. We frequent Ben's; one of their flagship restaurant and we bonded over the food they served. Apart from Ben's they also own Plan B, Canoodling, Tate, T Forty Two, Ricetaurant, to name a few. Their maths is simple, they are determined to build relationships through food.

And B.I.G is their latest project.

That's one angry wife, because it was the 12897th shot and boy was I starving!
So why do I wanted to go to B.I.G that bad? Simply because of the different ambience of doing groceries!  But that day we did not plan to do groceries, we just wanted to check the place out. So before we regret any unplanned departures with our ringgits, Hubs insisted that we eat first. You know one of the shopaholic's rules right? No shopping if you're hungry as it would definitely lead to impulsive purchases!

Ben's General Food Store - yumsy display

Please, who ever you are, please please please try their Nutella milkshake! Ya ampun nyaman!! I can't really describe the flavorful taste because it was so yummeh! Suffice to say that this shake right there is the reason (one of the many) why I'd surely make a comeback at B.I.G. Even as I'm typing this I could feel the dreamy taste lingering on the tip of my tongue... simply sedap!

So, once we're full, the adventure begins! The grocer's space alone lives up to it's name, it's big, spacious with endless isles that scream for your cart.

When the placard FRESH are put up, the produce literally represents the display.

Fresh as it gets!

Fresh vege - hydroponic style
Made famous by Jamie Oliver, fresh herbs

And they just defy the mediocrity of a Malaysian grocery store. Every section is manned by a couple if not one attentive, knowledgable and friendly grocer. When I say defying mediocrity, I mean...

Hubs doing the tummy tuck...don't be fooled

Wagyu beef

They're well, not common.

Hubs was tired of taking pictures and continued to wander through the isles. A lot of imported goods I must say, and a lot of organic stuff too, which I guess is wise for going organic is an in-thing now especially at an upscale place such as Solaris, I'm sure every one eats like a rabbit. They also carry assorted brands of earth-friendly detergents, toiletries and a few household necessities. I was utterly impressed until the second I read the price tag, gulp! Threefold the price of your trustworthy Sunlight.

Apart from its choco bar, vinegar corner, spice nook, flower parlor, a tempting bakery and a humble kopitiam (sorry no pics here), this particular section managed to get Hubs to haul his i4 again and snapped some pictures;

TESLian knows
The quietest area in B.I.G where I coaxed Hubs to enter but he refused. It's the non-halal section. I noticed no Malays went in. Why did I want to get in? Intriguing lah...

Our tour ended at the magazine section. Of course, a no-brainer for nerds like us. Hubs took home a photog's magazine and I brought home a few no-brainer reads, i.e. fashion mags. Hubs was quite surprise that I was not tempted by the aromatic bakery located nicely next to the magazine section, and so was I. I guess the mushroom lasagna that I had earlier on still lingered in my tummy line. So, apart from magazines, what else did I purchase from B.I.G?

This^
And so that wrapped up our mini tour in a grocery store. Hubs said there's no way we're heading back home just for a packet of chewies so he dragged me to explore Publika, the mall. Now I shall let the pics do the talking ya.

The main entrance

Hey, gotta love some pearly smoothies.

And after an extra hour of wandering, our perut do the keroncong song again... teruk betul... hence;

Vulgar cuppies said Hubs

The ntah apa2 chicken wings

Ombak Rindu, the final quest!
There was a charity concert going on at the open space near the Publika entrance. I couldn't resist buying the ticket (in the name of charity  ok!) because of the goodies!! I mean anything with Empire Records on it an 80's baby like me would surely grab it! (^^)  I didn't even bother to attend the concert!

 And that was our aimless weekend. Hopefully this weekend would be more fruitful (you wish). Will I return to B.I.G? Well, yes but not in the near future. This place reads 'burn a hole in your pocket'. Perhaps some time farther away in 2012 ok Ben? Till then.

Le me boycott the common

**PS:  While we're on our way home.
Hubs: "By you know in fact this is where Petronas always held their meeting. I come here twice a week. No wonder it looks familiar.
Me: Fail.
